2 - Ingredients in the First Man, answers

Read Genesis 1-6.

1. Where does man enter this Operation Creation? last

2. Why did he not emerge before? Man was the climax, the ultimate creation. Only man is created in the image of the infinite, eternal God.

3. If man is in God's image (Genesis 1.26), what does that mean? Man has the ability to reason; he has a limited capacity to create/invent; and he has a soul that is eternal.

4. Describe man's position in Creation and its significance. Man is God's masterpiece, and man was given dominion over the rest of creation. Therefore, man is responsible to care for all that God made.

5. What part of man is "dust of the earth"? (Genesis 2.7) his physical body

6. What part of man is "living soul"? (Genesis 2.7) his spirit

7. What else did man have that the animals did not? the capacity to sin

8. The fact that they were naked (Genesis 2.25) and were not ashamed indicates what?

Perhaps it is an indication of their innocence or perhaps they were clothed in radiance as a result of their close fellowship with God.

When did they become conscious of nakedness? (Genesis 3.11)

When they ate fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

9. Why was woman made? (Genesis 2.18) To be a helper and companion to Adam

10. What did Adam say about her? (Genesis 2.23) "This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called woman for she was taken out of man."

11. Find the meaning of the words "Adam" and "Eve."

Adam means "taken from the earth or the red. (Some say it means "blood of God.")

Eve means "the mother of all living," according to Genesis 3.20

12. Man was given the ability to choose. Did he use his powers of communication to contact God or the devil when he decided to eat the forbidden fruit? the devil

13. Through what three channels has evil always approached man? (I John 2.16)

a. the lust of the flesh, b. the lust of the eyes, c. the pride of life

14. How did the devil use each of these channels when he tempted Eve?

a. The lust of the flesh: Eve saw that the fruit was good for food.

b. The lust of the eyes: The fruit was pleasant to look at, probably beautiful fruit on a magnificent tree.

c. The pride of life: The devil convinced her the fruit would make her like God.

15. List everything man lost when he made the wrong choice.

a. Innocence

b. Intimate fellowship with God

c. An easy life in the Garden of Eden

d. Eve lost ease in childbearing

e. Spiritual life (which mankind regains by belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ)

I liked how you showed the three channels of evil used to approach man, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life listed in I John 2:16 and how that played out in the garden experience.

I also enjoyed the take on man being the crown of His creation.

Great study.

Thanks for your comment, Tamarajo, and for the phrase "crown of His creation." Interesting imagery.
